Trekking and Climbing in Kashmir.

Tenzing Norgay’s ascent of Mount Everest (8848m /29,028Ft) along with Edmund Hillary, in 1953, provided the impetus to mountaineering in emerging as an organized sport in India. Kashmir became the best place to enrich climbing skills and conquer a number of 4000 and 5000 m peaks. Besides exploring the unseen part of the Himalayas, Kashmir changed thousands of trekkers to Advanced Mountaineers. The highest mountain peak of Kashmir Valley is Mt. Kolahoi 5400 m and the easiest summit approach is provided by British Doctor Dr. Ernest Neve in 1912. Most of the mountain climbing routes in Kashmir are named by foreign climbers and way before when humans started conquering 7000 and 8000 m peaks.
